The latest batch of fairy cakes Will be Halloween themed we are so excited about delivering them to a company called just search who are putting on a last minute party at the end of October.

It’s always a difficult decision trying not to compromise any quality of cakes with the design we do want to make sure that they still taste gorgeous so we put extra special care into the Halloween batch of fairy cakes.

The great thing about Halloween and special events is you can actually elaborate on all the different types of cakes you normally make it’s so much fun baking and enjoying the time I spent in the kitchen at the special times of year.

After digging deeper it looks like google regularly updates page rank every three or four months, (source http://www.seothegame.com/toolbar-pagerank-update-history) and the longest gap looks like 5 months starting back in May 2009 and finally updating at the end of October 2009 so is google doing the same this year but stretching it out longer?

Either way I have been experimenting with a few different cake designs to celebrate when the page rank update finally happens.

They are not the best but it was just a bit of early morning Sunday fun with a few friends.

True to his word he paid via pay-pal last week, and this morning I had a knock on the door from a lovely elderly gentleman wrapped in a warm black jacket and gloves with a bright red and white scarf tightly fitted like a cravat around his collar.

I invited him in and let him try the brownies I had baked. He seemed really happy and I couldn’t help but quiz him why he had travelled all the way from Lincoln to buy some brownies.

It turns out he is a relative of one of my regular customers who raves about the brownies and as Macclesfield Town are playing Lincoln today he was trying to get them a sweet suprise for a birthday party he was throwing in Lincoln for my regular customer.

I didn’t realise how far word of mouth goes sometimes but having the train station 100 yards from base doesn’t hurt either.

I think this gentleman is a man after my own heart, everybody has the dream of winning the lottery and becoming a jet setting star but I know personally like most lovers of cakes I would almost continue to make my own sumptuous desserts for my own pleasure.

So as soon as I get in, I kick off my shoes, pour myself a glass of wine and get in the kitchen. To be honest, as much as I love cooking, after a long week at work I don’t want to be spending hours. I like tasty fresh food that I put together as quickly and with as less fuss as possible. A quick carbonara with garlic brushetta or tacos filled with spicy bolognese sauce, Friday nights are not salad nights for me, I need something rich and comforting. It also has be something that leaves room for movie snacks, because I don’t know about you, but it just doesn’t feel right sitting down to watch a film without some treats. I love warmed chocolate brownies with homemade vanilla ice cream, very indulgent I know, but I think I deserve it after a long week!

I have had a hectic few months over the summer, so I’m just trying to recharge my batteries and unwind a bit at the moment with yoga classes, massages and using lots of my calming recipes. I have been making thai soups, chowders and baking all sorts of goodies in the kitchen. I make a lovely rose petal cake, which uses rose essence in the icing which tops the light airy sponge cupcakes & then decorate with pretty little roses. Also lemon balm tea is lovely with a slice of lemon drizzle cake whilst relaxing in front of a film or why not try adding a little bit of lavender essence to your chocolate cake, yummy.

I think the reason a lot of people miss breakfast is because they think it is some soggy cornflakes or a dried piece of toast, so I’m not surprised they give it a miss. The first meal of the day should be something to wake up your taste buds.

There are so many lovely things to try, variety is the spice of life. Some of my favourites are home baked blueberry muffins, warmed through served with some yoghurt, organic duck eggs scrambled with smoked salmon or some crispy local bacon on a homemade soft barm roll.

Obviously when you’re rushing out of the door on a Monday you’re not going to have the time to make a batch of muffins or rolls, so I tend to take half an hour on a Sunday baking up some breakfast goodies for the week so when I wake up late on a Monday morning after snoozing for an hour I can still have something tasty.

You can have so much fun cooking with themes; creating witches out of sponge cakes, using all kinds of sweets to decorate which the children love. A few more of my favourites are ghosts made of wispy marshmallow, moist parkin cake served with a steamy hot mug of tea, and all kinds of biscuits. It’s also a great way to get children involved.

Macclesfield is one the best places I have been for Halloween cakes, last year I was overwhelmed with the effort either made by children and parents that made the night really special.

On display were the the best cupcakes that tasted of treacle toffee, marshmallow ghosts, parkin cakes and mini witches & Gould’s created from sponge.

I have not seen the best arranged selection of cakes since my mother sat down and taught  me to make simply fairy cakes, and the day she did I was so inspired  about the idea of making my own cakes.

The day after I got up and made my first scones with turned out to tast like small bread buns I wanted to get better at what i did which inspired this business.

So far I have baked this week, some ginger bread men and carrot cake which went down a treat with the family bobbing in a for a hot steaming cup of tea.

My father went so far, as to say that he had not thought that a ginger bread man cake would complement a good cup of tea so well. I have made a note of this so when his birthday comes around we can start the day off this way.

When it gets closer to Christmas im going to trail one or two variations of mince pies and crimbo cake, I have had lots of emails and suggestion of different types of alcohol that can be used in the preparation for the crimbo so that should be fun and games if I stick to putting the alcohol in the cake rather than have an accompanying glass.
